The EYE consortium

The EYE consortium covers full range of roles and capacities

from fundamental academic research to distribution of the contact lens to the end user,

Through the development and manufacturing of contact lenses. This unique approach will allow the project to tackle the challenge of improving presbyopic contact lenses solutions and will offer unique insights and career opportunities for young scientists.

Synergies between
the partners

The common interest of all the partners oscillates around better visual solutions for presbyopes.

In that contest it was agreed that modern vision science related to lens design is based on a basic “tripod” in which every aspect is equally important and necessary: theoretical and numerical modelling, laboratory work, and clinical research.

The EYE consortium has been chosen to cover all the aspects of this triangle: UCM will bring three complementary departments to provide expertise in theoretical models, big data techniques, biochemistry and clinical research. mark’ennovy will develop and manufacture new contact lenses materials and designs (or modify their existing technology) for the consortium. Furthermore, the participation of Alain Afflelou, an international optical centres group, will allow the consortium to maintain direct interaction with the presbyopic population and clinicians allowing subject measurements.

The complementariness between the partners will enable the EYE consortium to design new contact lenses models for presbyopic population and develop and test an e-health app to capture clinical parameters, and to register the environmental conditions to which the patients are exposed while they are wearing the contact lenses.

This information will allow the clinician to gather the important data related to the behaviour of the contact lenses and the feeling of comfort of the patients in the different environmental conditions to which they are exposed at different times of the day.
